Does NS still roster these big AC units? I thought I read somewhere that NS was trading them to CSX.

Nope, they've still got them, but they're only used on the Schelocta Branch in Western Central PA.

I don't think NS likes AC in general. They are "orphans" on NS. Where's Robbman?

it`s a coal hauling line so the 80macs work well. Plus I heard they like to keep them in one place for maintenence reasons...

Of course, aren't the eastern roads the only ones to have 80MACs?

Wrong, they're also used in the South Fork pool. I bagged 5 of them on Railfest Weekend...

SD80MAC has a 20 cylinder 710 prime mover.

SD9043MAC has a 16 cylinder 710 prime mover.

SD90MAC has a 265H prime mover, I'm not sure of the number of cylinders.

Remember, the N&W was still running steam in 1960... Your Yankee ways and New technology ain't readily accepted down south...  We prefer to make progress at a more leisurely pace, while sipping lemonade on the veranda....

You'd never get 11 of them to work at the same time.  That leaves too much sweet tea unattended, and vulnerable to spills.  Nothing comes between a man and his sweet tea.

Well, then you're missin' one o' the treats of the South, like shrimp and cheese grits. Grits are unground corn meal, BTW. With a pond of melted butter in the middle of 'em and some scrambled eggs and pork sausage, they're a great, if murderously unhealthy, good ol' Southern breakfast!

Amen! Love that sweet tea. All I get in Canada is iced tea, and it does not have the great taste of sweet tea. GCB and sweet tea, um 

3rdrail, with ya on the grits. My GF and I we're just down south (NC, TN, AR, MS, AL, GA, SC) and she just loves them. I can't figure out what the big deal is... they either taste a little salty or like water. I'll stick with the Quaker Oats anyday.
