Hmm, but why a sleeper instead of a coach? You'd think coaches would have much wider appeal (since they ended up lasting longer in secondary service), but then again, MTL never goes for the widest use model.

12 and 1's were the Geeps of Pullman passenger service, by far the most common Pullman to be found on any local with a Pullman up to the mid 1950's when 10 and 6's replaced them. The 12 and 1 stood for 12 sections and 1 drawing room. My wife and I rode in the drawing room of one from Mexico City to El Paso. There were a bunch of old ladies in the sections that wanted to know how we got the drawing room. I bought the space three days before departure at the downtown ticket office in Mexico City. NdeM didn't sell the DR to "gringo" travel agents.  ;D ;D

So, a good choice, IMHO.

Simple Ed.  The 12-1's were used by alot of RR's.  Coaches were almost like steam engines.  Just about every RR had their own coach design.  A lot of use have been waiting for years for these heavyweights.

Joe is a really great guy:  he understands the need to communicate with the forums.  Everyone appreciates that, and MT has nothing to lose and a lot to gain by him doing so.

Plus, his "soap masking" idea is genius.

I'm glad they are heavyweights and not more smooth sides. Gotta wonder how they will sell, one car at a time. It may or may not match what we already have.

I'd rather see individual cars. Otherwise we'd be stuck with Smokey and Pepsi or Disney or Battleships or some other zany sets. As for matching, real passenger cars didn't always match as they were usually painted at different times and as a result were at various points in the "fading" process. But ... at the rate M-T releases roadnames on their tooling - it could be decades before you see your roadname. So we'll probably see them first in Pullman lettering in (you guessed it) Pullman Green. Hopefully undec will come soon too.
