It's not on a railroad car, nor did I see it, but it's from my wife, who saw it in the Ladies Room of the Peabody Book Shop on North Charles Street in Baltimore:

"It's better to have flunked your Wasserman than never to have loved at all".  ;D ;D

One of the reasons I have backdated my modeling is to model the pre-spray bomb era.  8)

Don't know if this is my favorite graffiti, but it's close. I posted this one on www.modeltrainsweathered.com last year, probably most have seen it, but for those that haven't.

Graffiti was subtler prior to the invention of the spray can. Look closely at the piston valve cover on this NdeM Mikado:

This is the only graffiti I ever knowingly photographed.  8)

Mein Gott!  The Peabody Book Shoppe (and Beer Stube!)

What a fine establishment.  I'm sad to report that it was torn down a number of years ago, supposedly in the name of urban renewal, but the lot remains a weed-grown hole in the ground.

The Peabody had the honor of serving me my first legal adult beverage.  (Unbeknownst to them, they also served a number of them to me that were less than legit...)

As for Graffiti, I'm not a big fan, but one cannot railfan these days without getting some samples whether you like it or not.  But I confess I love the monkey with the roller...

I'm a fan of ICH (Ichabod-the "hot" chick pic) & also COUPE. The latter being
because his tag was probably the 1st I replicated in HO scale. Butch probably
caught the classic of all time at this point w/the monkey pic. (still reminds me
of Curious George.) There was another one elsewhere on a SOO covered hopper
that was quite large "J is for JET" & in a smaller tag by it "collect all 26"-wouldn't
mind catching some more.

But an early fave was this one. Dawn & I caught in on our 1st railfan outing
together a little over a year ago. We were chasing a WLE train south, & caught
it at a crossing in Creston Ohio. She got out of the truck for pics (I foolishly
stayed in the truck to get pics thru the windshield) but in the process of getting
a pic of another car, I caught the expression on her face as she saw it before
me coming towards us. (She'd klll me if I posted that one) We both got half
decent pics, but chased the train further south to get better ones. She got
the best of this one, & I knew then I was gonna try to replicate it. Proto pic
was the one she caught further south, & an exclusive preview "still in progress
crappy shot" of what I've done so far:

Still a lot of touch up etc, & of course the other side which I'm still working on.

i will dig out the photos i took in 1999 at Bound Brook, NJ - there is a siding that is used to unlock covered hoppers and the cut became a rolling art gallery - i think i know where they are...  once they are scanned in, i'll post them.

Hi ednadolski & KLUKE! (thanks bud-I keep trying my best)

Thanks! Basically doing the basic coloring, & then going over & fine tuning details
again, again, again, again, (ad nauseum) with a 20/0 brush, going from the proto photo
& careful study.
It's done a number on my eyes unfortunately. I use magnifiers of course, & I'm nearsighted
& wear glasses/contacts. But after a heavy session, it's hard to focus on small close stuff
without magnifiers for a couple days afterwards. I think a trip to the eye doc is necessary
& maybe bifocals? yikes! we'll see down the road.

I wanted to be a lot further along on this car at this point (as another couple) but life gets
in the way sometimes. I just hope I can make the other side look decent, & the roof/trucks
look good too-stay tuned!
