I haven't, but yes, people do reserve brass models, price unknown. Some years ago, it was even required to put up a deposit, usually, but not always, refundable if the model did not receive enough reservations. It was not referred to as pre-ordering, though, but as reserving. "Pre-ordering" is about as ungainly a creation as "doable".
