What do you think of the prices this month for the MT cars?

When I saw them on the nscalesupply site this morning I thought I was looking at retail prices. ;D  The Pan Am car is $35!

$35 is a lot of cash...   :o

...but, this car is made in USA - what is the price for a Redcaboose car made in China ?   ???
(and don't tell me the Redcaboose car is bigger and uses more resources...)

Not meant as any sort of excuse.....

It used to be that you could correlate the price of a MT car to the number of colors that had to be printed.  It's a little harder these days with new underframes and other changes.  But if you look at the car there are several  colors

Silver, Blue and gray for the body

White, yellow, red and black for the rest (possibly a second blue for the flag).

Plus it looks like a color match for the stirrups.

But even with that, it doesn't seem to justify the price.  The state cars all have mutiple colors and come in at a more reasonable price. but I wouldn't be suprised if those cars have twice the production run that the PanAm car will have.

The only other thing I can see based on their special runs, is that some of the colors might be special mixes.

All I can say is that I'm am thankful I purchased so much MT before the last few years.

edit:  I guess each side has different printing also.

Despite the high price of the Pan Am car, it is already sold out at MTL. Short run? Perhaps. But I am still surprised they were sold out in a matter of hours.

Maybe they made ten of them?

Maybe they're meant for those NSC guy's and someone goofed and released them to the uncouth masses?

Maybe they're actually selling 1:1 Pan Am boxcars?

It took three passes to make the white opaque. From what I understand, this created a LOT of problems.
There's a shyness found in reason

Too bad it's on the stupid extra short body they use for all the FMC boxcars...

I'd would gladly have paid $35 for this if MTL had printed it on one of the Athearn boxcars!

For $35 you can paint two for yourself.  And each one after that would be about $12 a piece until you run out of paint. :P

Excuse me, how is the Pan Am car so different from other dark 2500 series cars with white graphics like GTW and A&N?
