Will April's releases be tomorrow or Monday?

With April Fool's Day coming on Sunday this year, will Micro-Trains and Atlas "jump the gun" and announce April's releases (MTL) and new announcements (Atlas) tomorrow the 30th or wait until next week?

Any speculation as to what might be announced? We know MTL has the new hopper with the embossed side panels in the works, but will it be offered in April? Atlas has really brought forth some real "blockbusters" in the past few years, but nothing lately. Maybe Victor's Atlantic, or the -8-40-C others seem to want badly?

Anyone have some "inside information" to share?

Atlas is now behind HO on the Trainman 50' boxcars and the 3 bay hoppers...

What I'd like to see from Atlas are the new modern gons as done in HO...  and of course the C40-8's although I'd rather see a run of C44-9 (c40-9W) from Kato in NS...

As for MTL, I'd like to see their 52' gons done in the classic SOUTHERN billboard scheme or perhaps
more of the 60' boxcars or the 3 bay hoppers in NS.

I LOVE me some trainman boxcars.

Those things are such a great value. Seriously, the blow the IM boxes out of the water at 1/3 the price. I'd love to see some more of them. (Chessie, N&W, Southern, SBD, Family Lines, etc...).

Microtrains has consistantly posted their new stuff on the last day of the month, or the preceeding Friday if the last day falls on a weekend, so I would expect to see the MT announcements for April tomorrow afternoon.  I expect to see another State car (only 3 left; CT, DE, MT), and a Canadian Provinces car; other than that no clue.  I'm hoping for another 100T coal hopper in an eastern road and wouldn't object to a gondola.  I doubt we see the new hopper for a couple months yet; MT usually likes to do a little promo for their new body styles, and I haven't seen any ads for this one yet.

As for Atlas, I doubt we see anything tomorrow from them.  Since the March announcements were late (9th) I would expect something the following Friday (6th), although we might see it Thursday (5th) as the 6th is Good Friday.  I'm thinking this might be the month we see a new model from Atlas, as the last new loco was the GP38-2 in September and the last new freight car was the USRA Double Sheath in August; that's 6 months so we're overdue.  The Alco C-420 is out there somewhere and I'm still expecting the Magor caboose in N-Scale.  As for what I'd like, I'm hoping they do another run of the Evans gondolas.

Micro Trains will announce the new Nicaragua boxcar as the first entry in its "Places Illegal Aliens Come From" series.  The car will feature a partially open door revealing a set of Woodland Scenics' new figures "The Insulation Installers."  (This follows their last series, "The Landscapers")  These sets have been extremely popular, because you pay for a set of 5 figures, but you get 71 in the box.

Kato will announce the NW-2 has been discontinued because too many people want one.

Walthers will announce that legislation is pending in the Wisconsin House that would formally make N scale irrelevant, permanently codifying its current philosophy as law.

Intermountain will issue a formal statement confirming that the recent F-7 B-units were actually a test run of the oft discussed but seldom seen "Cab Forward."  The statement will be accompanied by a photo of the firm's former research assistant's head on a pike somewhere near Denver.

Atlas will announce that it has received the President's Award from Ford Motor Company, because for the last three years, Atlas has sold more Fords than they have.  To celebrate, Atlas will trot out a new model of the 1972 Pinto.  Purchasers of the N scale version will receive a bottle rocket, the HO version will come with an M-80, and a new O scale version will be packaged with a half-pound of C-5 explosive.

Bachmann will introduce a brilliantly designed and flawlessly engineered model of an AEM-7 in N scale that operates off of catenary, and is available in all the appropriate Amtrak and commuter paint schemes.  The models will retail for $29.99 with a lifetime warranty.  The engine's frame will be made of depleted plutonium to provide enough weight to pull 3 Bachmann Amfleet cars with the lighting still connected.  No one will buy them, though, because everyone is still angry about the blower ducts missing from the SD-45's...

Tyco will announce that it is re-entering the model train sector, with it's first product being a re-issue of those green Western Maryland flatcars with the concrete pipes on them.  It's first locomotive will be a Seaboard Coast Line U-something or other with Bicentennial paint.  The engine will be able to attain a speed of 900 scale miles per hour using slot car technology.

Athearn will offer the paint schemes of their gondola car at a special discounted price.  It turns out that several thousand items were packaged with only the paint schemes in the package, upon close examination it was determined that there are no actual cars in there though.  "We found that the cars were too thin for the paint" said Irv Jr.

MTL's policy is to announce new releases on the last business day of the month...in this case Friday March 30th. I'm very sure there will be something big this month and I don't mean HO Scale.

Oh thank goodness, I missed the last 300 runs of the BNSF / ATSF SD40-2.

In the time it took you to read the above, Kato announced and delivered at least 17 additional runs of the BNSF / ATSF SD40-2. At least 12 more releases of these popular BNSF/ATSF locomotives are somewhere in the Pacific and will be announced the second the harbour pilot assumes control of the vessel.

Now, in the time it took you to read the above...

I forgot to mention that Life Like will be doing it's subway cars anew also...  The sound chip will feature a variety of sounds, including "Annoying Guy on his Cell Phone,"  "Mumbled Station Announcements" and "Flatulent Passenger."  The latter features a special "Smell-O-Rama" circuit for added realism...
