Photos of second D&RGW caboose

I just finished a second Trainworx D&RGW caboose kit.  This one is finished in the flashier of the two, if you could call it that, all black Rio Grande caboose schemes.  The radio equipped cabooses were originally painted with two horizontal yellow stripes.  This kit went together fairly quickly since I had the experience of building the first one.  Pat at Trainworx still has these kits in stock.  It's a fairly simple hack job on an Atlas Cupola Caboose that involves removing all the body detail and drilling out the new window location, then laminating the brass sides and adding details.  I added Atlas friction bearing caboose trucks with Fox Valley Models metal wheelsets and Micro-Trains Z scale couplers.  With care I believe the results are better then an equivalent brass model would be and much cheaper.  Anyone interested should contact Pat at Trainworx at: trainworx@wic.net  He’s' very easy to work with and ships promptly.  Check them out here on the Trainworx site.  http://www.wic.net/~trainworx/riogrande.htm   As I’ve said before I'm not affiliated with Trainworx just a happy customer who wants to see Pat sell out of these so he'll do the riveted side series.

Did the ladders on the real cabeese go like the model, just a bend and then hanging off in space? That seems to be an accident waiting to happen.

BTW: The models look great.

Yeah, they actually were bent like that.  I haven't seen that type of bend on any ther railroad.  The D&RGW had 81 steel cabooses like that.

Here's a photo of the prototype.
