Here are a couple of passenger train terminal photos from over a half century ago.

Central of Georgia 24 switching Terminal Station, Atlanta in 1955. Station and locomotive are long gone:

Norfolk & Western 121 caught at Roanoke while changing trains in 1957. At least this station is still there - as a museum:

Next week, some of Jim Coon's photos of Army steam at Ft. Eustis, VA, in 1963.

How about a little infrastructure?

On the PRR Frederick Secondary near Walkersville, Maryland.

Same bridge, different angle.

This bridge was constructed as part of a line relocation in the 1930's when a portion of the B&O from Grafton to Philippi was moved for the construction of a dam on the Tygart Valley River. It's pretty amazing, extending around a graceful arc on columns about 85' high. If I'd stuck around about 20 more minutes, I'd have gotten a train on it... Oh well, now I have a reason to go back!

Fantastic photos, Wes!! I note the Malaysian Pacific was equipped with rotary cam poppet valve gear and I wonder about the Indian Pacific as this quarter's Keystone from the PRRT&HS has a photo of one of those being loaded aboard a vessel in Philadelphia. Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton built them at the Baldwin Works through the early 1950's.

Seriously, the NZ and China photos are magnificent! 8) 8) 8)

Thanks for the compliments.

There were 755 WPs built between 1947 and 1967.

The first fifteen (prototype) WPs were built by Baldwin in 1947. A further 300 were built by Baldwin (100); Canadian Locomotive Co (80);and MLW (120) in 1949. CLC supplied another 120 in 1955/56 and two European builders chipped in with 60 between 1957-59. All the remainder were built in India between 1963-67.

The early North American examples were supplied with Boxpok drivers which really suited these engines. Unfortunately overhauls and maintenance could see things switched around as the second of these two photos shows!.

Cheers, Wes
