Have you given any thought as to how we might get one of those babies for the layout Doug?  I'll need a few and have toyed with different ideas over the years.

I guess my last completely scratchbuilt car:

Although I like the way the homemade decals came out on this, too:

Steve, I have indeed given it quite a bit of thought.  To the point of traveling to the "Carbon Black Capital of the World" to take photos and gather information.  So, stay tuned...

In the meantime, you can modify a Bowser airslide as a "sorta-stand-in" model, but it's a reach without significant work.

RE: the stand-in - significant work to the point of "might as well scratch it" IMO.  Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.  Thanks.

I guess that's my definition of "kinda-stand-in"....absolutely not available commercially, don't want to/have time to scratchbuild, so what options are left.

Back to topic, probably my second favorite car is the UFIX Coalveyor gondola.  I'll throw a picture up later.

Of my own rolling stock, I’ve always liked this one the best since it’s the most unique.  This is and Athearn 53' flat with a Republic Locomotive Works resin Nn3 D&RGW short caboose kit.  When I first got back into model railroading a few years ago the plan was to model N scale narrow gauge.  After building a couple of cars I succumbed to the standard gauge urge and needed somewhere to display the caboose.  So, the story is it's being transported to a park somewhere.

Carbon black cars... yes, yes, yes! I see alot of them round here (Toronto) coming and going from Columbia Chemicals in Hamilton, ON. I also see the Sid Richardson and CABOT cars often. I would love some, and there are several types.

Doug, what is the "Carbon Black Capital of the World"?

Erik,

Very nice. I like the two-cars-for-the-price-of-one idea too and have been thinking about doing some flats with wreched standard gauge cars, as I see heading through the area regularly. That, and one of the tank cars that burned in the Howard Street tunnel mishap a few years back sat for the longest time in south Baltimore. Always wanted to model that but never got photos. I wonder of it's still there? Oh well, another destination point added to my weekend of railfanning.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Since this topic can be read two ways, model or prototype, and some of both have been shown, I'm gonna "doubledip" and show a couple of prototype cars I'd like to see made in N scale:

First. the ventilated boxcar:

And then, the chlorine car:

The latter cries out for all-metal construction. TrainCat2, what do you think?
