SDF40-2 Build up (N Scale)

Here's an attempt at modelling a ATSF SDF40-2 (yeah its a western road).
This is just the start. I cut up a FP45 and Kato F40PH to get the right bits and also am going to use Grant Eastmans F45 detail fret.

[

See it looks like crap eh! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hurry up and get the right fuel tanks!!!  ;D

I thought about doing the Amtrak version for a while but decided I didn't really want to do any passenger car models.

Wow, that's awesome!

You must have what, $70 in shells in the thing?

Good luck with it, keep us posted, I want to see many more pics of it as it comes along.

Here's the other side now that I've completed hacking up panels. In the previous photo the side you are seeing now had no panels - a bit drafty zipping along the tracks eh! ;D

Ed I only purchased the Kato F40PH shell $32.00 USD the FP45 shells I have been hacking up only cost me a few dollars a piece. So this is a low buck effort except when I start adding all the detail parts ;D

Simon,
Yep I will be doing that already  ;D  I'll be getting 3 of them plus I need some Tunnel motor pilots and steps etc. Just thought I'd wait a bit until I have worked out all the bits I need for this.

at this rate I'll finish another model before you get them!  ;)

Any reason why you want TM pilots and not SD60 ones ?

Also I've fixed the question in my last post so it made sense.

Simon,
i'll have to swear you to secrecy and don't tell anyone ok?  ;D ;D ;D

Here's the recipe for a HO SDF40-2

http://www.qstation.org/sdf40-2/

The Tunnel Motor pilots give the correct look at the rear. Gregg Fuhriman uses a GP40 pilot for the front- the core anyway.

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Some more work done today, A bit of undercoat to see how much more filler I need and some details added - lots more to do.

Better watch  out for those pesky Italians trying to spy on my modelling, fancy using a Fiat 500 (Bambina)!!! :o parked behind Mount Pimple.

A bit more work on the side panels. Used .020" styrene square rod for the uprights and filed them down to roughly 0.5mm (don't know what that is in inches ). Cut in the F40PH compartment doors between the dynamic brake vent and the air filter bit. Hard to see the detail - very small.
Still a bit rough. A lot of work to get this far. It's sitting for the moment on a SD40-2 mechanism, I needed my SD60M mechanism for it's SD60M that I'm doing in BNSF H3.

Nope been making my diorama, otherwise I'll have nothing to photograph my SDL39 against once it's done! :D

I've been messing with this some more. Added SD60 pilots and IM Tunnel Motor fuel tank with styrene air tank. Nowhere near finished, pilots need a lot of detail work as well as the fuel tank.
