Looks like they're planning to cut back on the level of stock they plan to carry in-store... could this be a huge mistake?

Holy $#!+ I can WALK there now!

Good location, nice and easy to get to via interstates, etc...

I can snag some pictures of where they'll be this week if anyone is interested.

I think this will be good for them, but I KNOW it's going to be fraught with danger.

Good luck guys!!!

Guess you can sell your car, then, and put the proceeds into the layout!  ;D

You can be there in a half hour, Jerry.  Of course, you have your own shop there in the basement, so what would be the point? ;D

Wow, this location is going to give Yorktown Hobby Shop at Cranbrook/York a run for their money, even though Yorktown's N scale selection is horrible (at least the last time I was there, about 6 months ago).

From the looks of it, there is no guarantee that MBK will have much of an N scale selection either...

Put a hold on that trip to Maryland...

They stock less because fewer are buying there, and then fewer buy because there is less stock.  I spell that "D-e-a-t-h  S-p-i-r-a-l."   Which is unfortunate.

I swung by the new place tonight on the way home. I'll head  back in daylight, but it looks like it used to be a video production place.

More info as it comes.

I'm disappointed in their announcement for two reasons...

First is location - they've almost doubled in distance from me; instead of 35 miles and about 45 minutes drive, they're now almost 60 miles and a little over an hour away.  Personally I was hoping for something a little closer.  The distance alone is going to make my visits more infrequent.  I'm also disappointed that they are located in what appears to be an industrial park instead of  a shopping center / strip mall / retail district.  This makes sense if you're going to focus on web / email sales, but it definately limits their walk-in traffic.

Second, (and I don't see this in their official announcement, only via peoples comments) it looks like they are going to have a retail store smaller than their current store, instead dedicating most of the space to warehouse/shipping.  It looks like this is a major change in philosophy from when they started looking for a new location.  I remember talking to Shane right after they made the announcement that they were looking for a 10-15K square foot space; Shane was pushing for 15K, because he wanted a store where EVERYTHING was out in the store and on display.  The current direction looks to be 180 out from that.

Of course, since then they've launched their new website, and that may have changed their minds.  I know I have used it more often; I used to visit their store once a month, but I haven't been in since December.  The website is easy to use, automatically calculates discounts, and shipping is cheaper than the gas to drive to Baltimore.  It is also cheaper for me, because I don't buy those "impulse" purchases on the web that I do when I walk into the store; this loss of impulse purchases costs Klein's business though, so for them it's a bad thing.

I'll be interested in seeing how it works out, but I have a bad feeling about this.... :'(

Load some junk on the truck.
Head up to Kleins.
Stop at the Texas landfill to toss the junk and an empty yellow bag.
Go home.
Works for me.

Heh heh heh. I like it Martin!

I didn't get a chance to snag pics this morning (forgot the camera). Sorry.
