Silver (or Aluminum) decals?

Can anyone out there make genuine metallic decals in silver or aluminum? In checking, I find that the Apalachicola Northern's first Diesels were four NW2's, 701-704, that ended up on the Clinchfield. For the past couple of decades, AN has used white reflective lettering and striping from 3M, but initially the Diesels were blue with aluminum (or silver) lettering and striping. Down the line, I might consider buying a Kato NW2 (not from this run) and painting it for the AN, assuming I could get someone to make the correct color decals.

Just about any of the custom run decal guys out there can do a true metallic silver if they use the Kodak Colorproofer or Alps printers.

(did anyone see lately on eBay how much a MD-5000 costs nowadays - crazy ?)

That's because as of March 15th, ALPS will no longer repair the units. Currently you send them a bad printer and some money and you get a brand-y new refurbished printer. Soon that will be over. ALPS USA just did their last call for orders of printer cartridges. After this order is delivered there won't be any more carts from ALPS USA. People can still go to Europe to get cartridges though.

Supposedly Kodak is selling the Alps printers as its Firstcheck line. Has anyone priced these or ascertained whether or not the cartridges are compatible with the Alps line?

There'll be a lot of decal makers S.O.L. if they can't get Alps cartridges. BTW, just heard on TV that Kodak reduced prices on a lot of printer cartridges today.

A number of the small decal making firms moved to these when Kodak introduced it, but it was a very pricey printer > 5k for one. The cartridges will work in ALPS printers with a bit of work, I myself use a few of them. But the cartridges are still produced by ALPS in Japan for Kodak and that's over, gone, nada, done deal  :'(
