Here are some photos of one of the last steam powered fan trips on the Long Island Rail Road, using G5s No. 39, which ran from Jamaica to Greenport and return. The first photo was taken at Jamaica, the other three at Greenport.

Next week, a couple of LIRR MU's.

Last week I took Son of Wes for his first trip to the big smoke i.e. Sydney to see the Harbour Bridge, Opera House, a 20/20 cricket match and to catch up with some relatives. Travelled on a few trains on the interurban and urban networks - all trains double deck and use 1500v DC overhead.

A Sydney-bound 4-car interburban working on the line to Newcastle rolls to a stop at the picteresque hamlet of Brooklyn/ Hawkesbury River. This line doubles as the main Sydney-Newcastle-Brisbane freight corrdior and we saw four freights pass by in a couple of hours while we sat and had fish and chips at one of the local cafes.

On the same line, a Sydney to Wyong interburban pulls into the major Central Coast town of Gosford

Waiting for the train at Sydney Central

An eight car 'Tangara' formation pulls into Sydney Central to take us to the airport for the flight back to Adelaide.

Cheers, Wes

Wes, your photos of Australia always make me want to jump on a plane and visit, except I loathe planes. That Brooklyn sure looks a helluva lot prettier than Brooklyn, NY!  8)

Thanks 3rdrail - that's the power of the N scale modelling fraternity at work!

I hate planes too, but see them as a necessary evil. You know you're always welcome Down Under if you decide to chance it!

Should be plenty more Aussie pics in the coming months - I've got an assignment to provide a photographic record of major upgrading works going on between Melbourne and Sydney which should see me regularly lineside during the year.

Cheers, Wes

The only photo I have that I took of a WM F unit in road service.  Harpers Ferry WV 1977.  I believe it was early September.

Insulated rail joiner in Newport

Grain elevators that used to be in Morehead City on one leg of what was once the A&EC wye:

You can see bits of huricane damaged elevaters already.  After a couple more hurricanes, there wasn't enough left to rebuild.

Less the bridge it kinda reminds me of the area round Sabago Lake in Maine.

Couple shots of a rare find (only three made) - EMD BL20-2:

A nice side shot of a BNSF reefer:

A couple of hoppers adn tankers truck-deep in the gravel at the western end of the Bakersfield BNSF yard. This was the shot I could get from the overpass - but it was much worse in other places.

I got all these shots and tons more while railfanning in Bakersfield, CA with Craig from BLMA Models:

Hope one of you guys (Robbman) can identify this locomotive. I think its a U boat in former Conrail blue with its original numberboards still working the rails at the Tarmac facility near Jessup, MD. For you local MD guys, that is Route 32 behind and on top of it. I shot this one today.
