Storing weathered cars?

Hey gang,

To all of you inspiring weathering folks, I am curious to know where you keep your cars after all the hard work. I currently don't have a layout to display cars so that leaves my foam lined storage boxes. It can become sticky and grab at cars periodically. I worry it would work wonders on a weathered car. Your thoughts?

I usually keep them in jewel cases, but I store the athearn ones in the foam boxes.

Thanks for the thoughts all. Tom, I actually started discarding many of the jewel cases when I purchased a full set of stroage boxes. I might need to hold onto the boxes moving forward. Didn't think of a display case. That may be a really good idea.

Yeah, I threw out, or used for other things, probably 50 jewel cases. Then ended up buying replacements! Chuck will be glad to sell you some! I keep my cars in them with a piece of bubble wrap cut to fit the jewel case thick enough to keep the car from sliding in the box. For some very short cars, I add short cubes of foam at the ends.

I would shy away from dullcote...I've heard too many reports of 'yellowing' over time. :-\

Jeff, you sell all of those wonderful cars I've seen?!? Wow...

Tom, say it ain't so! I am a dullcote fanatic but I have only used it on a few cars in the last few months so I don't know what the long term results could be.

I haven't seen the yellowing first hand.  I have a lot of dullcote'ed stuff too, but none more than a few years old.

I recently have embraced a "no dullcote, minimal chalk" approach to weathering and haven't had a reason to use dullcote.

have you tried a dehumidifier?

here in so illinois, the humidity can be oppressive... i currently employ a dehumidifier in my basement and i can tell a huge difference when it gets turned off... the bin fills itself usually every day to day and a half... it's pretty surprising how much moisture those things can suck out of the air...

I have a dehumidifier in my basement .. it gets rid of most of the moisture .. and keeps the humidity regulated ..

I have cars that were Dullcoted 30 years ago that show no signs of yellowing. They have been in boxes, though and not on a layout or on display.

I too have heard 3rd hand reports of dullcoat yellowing. I've seen it bleed dark colors onto lighter ones but this is on model figures (think toy soldiers) that were brush painted, ie thicker than being spray painted and out and abused not on display. I can say that models I've done in the 80's with future haven't yellowed for what its worth.
