CN 398. This train was incredibly long this day.
Waited a while until VIA 75 came by, followed by the first GO train to arrive for the evening:
There was a westbound freight I didn't shoot because my first set of batteries died. This was followed by VIA 83, and an unknown EB freight:
Shortly after that freight, the second GO arrived, running half an hour late. Then it got interesting. VIA 95 to Niagara Falls got lined on the south track through Bayview to cross over at Hamilton Junction, and another GO was lined on the north track to pass Bayview but stop at the signals at Hamilton Junction. The GO arrived first and stopped between the junctions. Then 95 ran around the parked GO train. Once he cleared, the GO train that was still in Hamilton ran out onto the CN and headed back for Toronto. Finally the late-running GO could enter the CP tracks at Hamilton Junction and head for the station to unload.
Finally, the Amtrak "Maple Leaf" from New York passed by bound for Toronto. This guy was pretty much on time.
Following him was another detour, F328's counterpart, F329. These trains should not be confused with NS trains 327/328 which haul autoparts cars to the Ford plant in St. Thomas, ON via Buffalo.
Note the lack of any illuminated headlights on F329. That's a no-no. The 3rd GO train now departed Hamilton and stopped short of crossovers just east of Bayview to meet VIA 79. With 79 and the deadheading GO departed, I began my trek home. On my way through Cambridge, I passed a local out of Galt hauling a huge number of empty autoracks up to the yards at Hagey for the Cambridge Toyota autoplant. I took the opportunity to shoot it at a small trestle crossing the river, even though light was failing.
Total of 9 CN freights, 6 VIA passenger trains, 1 Amtrak, 3 GO commuter trains (plus their return runs to Toronto) and one CP local. Plus the Southern Ontario Railway "steel train" and 2 CPs on the Hamilton subdivision which could barely just be glimpsed passing Hamilton Junction in the distance. And one nicely sunburnt face.
