I model the 1860's.

Can it be two coal tubs on a 30 foot flat car?

I promise to grind my own real coal.

John may have excluded it from the competition but I'd like to see photos when you're done, complete with a write up of how you ground your own coal ... oh yeah, & pix of the prototype that you worked from ;) :) ;D 8)

My entry this month so there is not only 1 entry. I believe Jeff(MrKluke) will be here. This was a very quick weathering job. I've not seen many photos of these cars, the ones I have, there's not much rust just dirty. I did a "wash" with Poly S. A little gouache for "rust". The wheels & trucks are painted with Poly S. No Snickers, Milky Way, Twix, Payday, Hershey etc. bars were injured in the production of this car. Just kidding MM

What's "D&S"?

Jeff (MrKLUKE)

Since no one ever answered your question, it's Durham & Southern, a short line that operated between Durham and Fuquay-Varina, NC, becoming part of the SCL and is now mostly abandoned. Its one claim to fame was that it was the only US railroad to order new locomotives in 1933, the height of the Great Depression. It ordered three "lawnmower" Decapods from Baldwin.

Jeff!

No, it was sitting still. Darn near impossible to get a clear shot around here. It's either too dark or obstructed by SOMETHING. I think the silverish-white ribs are from where I sharpened it with Picasa.

Did you see that ex-PC hopper over on MTW? I was going to e-mail them to you, but decided not to because the files are pretty big.

Since participation has waned in the last few months, this is the last of the challenges .. and I declare no winner.

I want to thank all of you that contributed your tallents to these monthly even, but it has become increasingly clear that the interest is no longer there. I look forward to seeing your models, when and if they are ready, without deadline or bodystyle choice.

Good job everyone .. and good luck ..

Jeff: look at the car number of Matt's photo - he caught the same car you shot.
