Maps.Live.Com makes me sad...

I've been looking at the 3/4 views on Microsoft's Google Maps competitor (which, and I hate to admit this, kicks google's rear) to find some good modeling ideas for oNeTRAK modules along the Northern Central.

Well, it looks like there are a bunch of interesting possibilities, but it also made me realize something else.

Stuff in the real world is BIG.

I was looking with an eye toward what will fit on a 1x4 module, and guess what, it ain't a lot! In fact, even a 2x4 won't fit in a whole lot more.

Go take a look yourself. It's kinda depressing.

Ed, maybe now you realize what "selective compression" is about, and why many of us compare creating a model railroad to creating theatrical stage settings... my portable model railroad crams over a scale mile of track into a setting a scale 320 ft. by 640 ft. or about 12 football fields.

One reason I'm keeping my eye on T Gauge. Seriously.

That's why our N-TRK club has 4 8' modules to model the downtown Tulsa Union Depot, and that's "selectivly compressed" by about 4 city blocks. The Tulsa Cherokee Yard(BNSF ex-Frisco) would be about 160-170' long and 20' wide. Take our oun semi-trailer to hual THAT in. :'(
