ESU Loksound install into Kato SD70MAC

Hi to all   I just finished the install of the ESU 58741 decoder, OWS 9x16mm speaker with large 3D printed backcase, and LED lighting.  This one required very little work... 
First is the view of the shell, the frame and the speaker on the backcase with a 12mm extension.  I print these in my Mono2 resin printer.  The decoder is loosely installed at this point. [ Guests cannot view attachments ]
 Next is the side view of the frame and speaker.  The extra volume is accessed thru 2 internal ports to help retain the shape during printing.

 The top view showing most of the wiring.  The front headlight is a warm white 3mm LED filed down for clearance.  The rear light is a 0402 white LED with a 2.2kOhm SMD resistor.  The shell pushes the wiring down into a Kapton lined cavity for the rear light.

 Finally a close-up of the mounted speaker showing the form factor of the speaker case.  The extra volume helps a bit with the sound. The LED in the background was stuck to the motor magnet when I took the picture (oops!).

 I downloaded the SD70MAC sound file from ESU, made a few modifications, and it started at "1" on my PowerCab without any changes to the CVs!!

Looks like a really nice, clean install GG. That's a nice looking speaker enclosure you printed, did you design it? I've been thinking about printing some for myself. Thanks for sharing.

Hi   Sorry for slow reply- out of town.  Yes, I printed the case.  I have a bunch of case designs on TinkerCad that you can review and download for free.  https://www.tinkercad.com/things/cOnvInGnk5Q-extra-volume-speaker-cases-for-kato-sd-series-n-scale-diesels    You can scale these easily to adapt to other diesels.

thats a great speaker design we have been using and keeping a secret for a while but it looks like the cats out of the bag LOL.
is that the newest kato run? looks like they finally modernized that mech?

Not really. The SD70MAC mechanism is the same as it has been since its introduction couple of  decades  ago.  See http://spookshow.net/loco/katosd70.html

Thanks.  Yes it is the latest run from Kato.  Just delivered from N Scale Supply in Arvada CO.   Ordered it in July or thereabouts.  I usually try to print a case that maximizes the allowed space (or dremel-tooled extra room).
