I would wager that car was used to haul wide plate from Lukens in Coatsville.  Based on that assumption, it could  have gone anywhere on the system to reach its final destination, including the NC.

Jeff

If I remember correctly the Reading Railroad had some gondolas equipped with special slanted racks for just that purpose so I wouldn't doubt a flatcar like that would be coming from there too.

I believe that flatcar was for hauling wide plates of steel.  Flatcar looks like an F30D.  Conrail’s primary wide plate cars were G36H’s.  Thanks.

Jeff

I did a little more digging regarding the Conrail flatcar choice.  These were revenue service cars, not MOW.  This car is from a series of ten cars: CR 758001-758010 = Flatcar, Steel, Diagonal Plate loading, F30D.  They are not listed in my 10/75 ORER for PC.   They are listed in my 4/80 ORER for CR.  They are also not included in the original ICC 8432 roster.  This leads me to hypothesize that these were a conversion performed by Conrail  to meet customer need.  The paint scheme seems to appear like it was a paint out and not a full repaint.  They must have needed these in a hurry for a customer.  I am not sure which shop would have competed this modification.  Could have been Altoona, Beech Grove, Enola, Holldaysburg or Reading.  I might pick one up with the hope that an F30D gets produced in N scale at some point.  The plate hardware could be transferred to it.  Thanks.
