With the obviously white car on the right, and the white lettering on the car.. I'm thinking yes?

Although the number PC 9752 is interesting because...

Thoughts?

Looks like a Penn Central (copulating worms?) logo to me.  I think the road number is 3752.
. . . 42 . . .

Definitely a PC logo there. Agree it's 3752 (or 5752).

Am I missing an inside joke?  Why can't it be PC 9752? (which is what I see painted on it)

Perhaps not the most accurate source, but from here:

https://www.thedieselshop.us/PennCentral.HTML (scroll down to get to switchers)

original PC number

9733-9765*    --    Alco S4    23    Ex-NYC 8600 series
Tom D.

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

I know nothing about the PC...

July '69 ORER shows PC Mark III Flexi-vans are series 776001 to 776460, total of 106 cars. There are other "Flat, Steel, Twin Van Body" listed, which I suspect are also Flexi-Van, but there is no data to support that in the ORER. Those series are in ranges 775100-775200, 775203-775258, and 777419-777525.

There are no significant changes in the Jan '70 ORER, save for more car numbers (of the Mark IIIs, now 187 are listed).

One thing I did note whilst browsing through the two books is no road numbers of less than six digits are present.

Let me settle the number debate..

I think what happened is.. it was MVFX 9752 which is a steam line equipped Mark IV, when it got repainted it got a PC initial accidentally? instead of MVFX.

I have to apologize: I was quite wrong - or right, but misdirected - in my previous post.

The car is marked correctly as PC 9752, one of a series of three found not in the freight ORER where I was looking but rather in the passenger register. Series is PC9700-9799, ex NYC of the same number series. PC was also in the process of renumbering the other NYC flexi-van flats found in series 9850-9899 and 9924-9926.

Apologies for the earlier misdirection; searching the passenger register hadn't occurred to me until I saw your enlarged image and did some further research.

It is interesting that there were apparently duplicate numbers in their system. Do you know what date the images were taken?

Here is a good summary of NYC Flexi-vans including the acquisitions from WP, Southern, CERX, and USFX
