I seem to recall that @Chris333 uses even simpler shapes for the rivets to minimize the drawing's complexity. Something like pentagons or hexagons maybe.  In N scale, and that the resolution these get printed, they likely all look like round rivets.

I just used circles that were extruded, but circles in autoCAD were 96 segments each. Just using circles in Sketchup was much better. In N you could use small squares, but anything to simplify it will work.

How many segments do the SketchUp circles have?

As many as you type in. 4 segment circle is a square. In Cad you cannot set it. My problem was importing cad files.

Default I belive is set to 24, however as Chris mentioned they can be adjusted to whatever youd like

I see.
So using something like 5 or 6 segments for tiny round objects (N scale rivets) should keep the file complexity down.  It's going to look wonky when zoomed in on the drawing, but when printed, they will likely look fine.

Some more Tinkering around ..

Viaduct Girders - 40' and 80'   (76.2mm and 152.4mm) - these should be a direct replacement for the ME girders ..  Rivets on both sides ..

And the first test print .. also made some of the cross braces
