Gotta say, the manual on this decoder is pretty hard to decipher. I can see that the white and yellow wires are FO and FOR and that the green and violet wires are Aux1 and Aux2, but it appears that every other Aux output (3 thru 10, I guess?) are logic level outputs(?), meaning (I think) they won't power LED's (why would someone need more logic outputs than regular lighting outputs anyway?). Aux4 may be a regular output, but it isn't very clear. Also, the manual doesn't seem to account for the dongle attachment with all the wires. There are way more colored wires than are depicted in the manual. How are you supposed to know what these wires are for? Maybe I haven't found the correct manual?

I agree that the V5 nano with the wire adapter board documentation is not very clear or informative.  I had a problem in one of my installs, and I went through some pains figuring out which AUX outputs are logic level. Not helping is the fact that ESU used 2 different wire adapter boards on this decoder.  I assume you have the most current one.

Here is the photo of that adapter board.   The legends silk-screened on it are self explanatory.
But there is not enough info about whether the outputs are powered or logic level.   AUX3, 4, (and also 10, 11, 12) are all logic level. Rest are powered.

This info was gathered from the new E24 connector's pinout.

Thanks, Peteski! Yes, I have the same adaptor board as pictured However, I'm still unable to tell which wires go to which Aux output as it appears that there is no correlation between the positions on the diagram you attached and the positions on the adaptor board.

.....unless they are saying "A6", for example (printed on the adaptor board), is Aux6. Not sure why I didn't pick up on that before but, yeah, still no way to tell what's a regular output and what is logic level. How did you arrive at that info?

Sorry, I thought it was clear.  Yes A6 on the adapter means AUX6 and so on.  There was not enough room on the adapter to use the full AUX name.
S+ and S- are speaker connections, and the rest you can identify by the wire colors (blue, white, yellow, etc.)

The pinout diagram of the 24 pin connector is unrelated to the pads layout on the adapter. I included it because it shows which AUX outputs are logic level, which helped me to understand that I can't use AUX3 pad for powering up LEDs.  As you can see the AUX4 pad is omitted from the adapter board (likely becuase it is a logic level output).  I believe the reason ESU included the logic level AUX3 is to use it as the control signal for the ESU keep-alive power packs.

Ok, thanks! So, then it would appear that, if the output has a wire attached, it's a standard output. If it's pad, it is probably a logic level output. I'm guessing that this may not apply to all ESU LS5 decoders.

The board I photographed does not have a wire on A3, but I'm not sure if that is how it came from the factory.  This is the adapter board I had a problem with (before I knew A3 was logic level output).  That is why you see silver traces of solder on that pad (not gold color of a pristine pad). If your factory-new decoder has no wires on A3 then I would agree with your statement about no wire on logic level output.  At least on this decoder.

The manual references 6 outputs  and shows them on page 26 as White, Yellow, AUX1, AUX2, AUX5, AUX6.

Maybe someone can explain the AUX7 (power) to me?

That diagram is old, but unfortunately, the only one in the LokSound Manuals.  Most Nanos have a newer adapter board like in Peteski's photo.  No documentation but most of it is self-explanatory.

I believe that on that adapter board, the AUX7 is where you connect the third wire from ESU's PowerPacks which switches the PowerPack off when programming.

Sumner, that diagram is of the old (original) wire adapter. ESU doesn't use it anymore, and  they instead they use the one I showed in my earlier post.  That is a really confusing drawing since it doesn't show where the AUX5, 6 and the blue wire are connected.

On this adapter the AUX7 output is the lone pad between the row of 6 pads and the connector.

A7 is the Charge wire to the power pack (or capacitors) based on a picture from the ESU website of how to connect one of their power packs to an adapter board. no idea about A8

According to the nano decoder's 24 pin connector pinout, A7 and A8 are powered outputs.  I was under the impression that power pack uses a logic level output.  That would be A3 or A4.  It seems that different ESU decoder models use different AUX output for power pack control.

As I understand things, using LokProgrammer the power pack control is assignable to any AUX output on the decoder.
