Looking good boss! It’s sure cool to see some other areas getting some attention. Love the Amherst “archaeological” scene!! We need to collaborate on the track plan, unless you’re already on it. I’m afraid I no longer have those notes. Should’ve been done years ago. Story of my life…

And here is a view of the west face of the tunnel or underpass. Hopefully I can recreate a decent approximation of it.

Unfortunately here in the Shire, we must make do with styrene. After second breakfast or elevenses.

If you wait until after Elevenses there isn't much time for glue to dry before lunch.

Man. It just goes to remind me that the WC was too cool to live.

WC ended the independent existence of the road I model, but I can't hate it.

When CN took over they wiped out the remaining individual character.

Yes, but the mixed power of some AC Fs and whatever WC SDs or GPs looked just cool.

Yes, but the mixed power of some AC Fs and whatever WC SDs or GPs looked just cool.

I was working at WC when we got the ACR. We bought a bunch of VIA rail F units for the passenger trains which I thought was a classy move. We placed the GP38-2s into freight service which made sense , we were then able to retire some GP30s . We lowered the noses on the GP-9s and made them better.

I found out the hard way that the ACR passenger cars were 110 volt direct current, that hurt.
We were buying new batteries for the passenger cars because they were testing them wrong in Saul Ste Marie.

I think that it was a good thing the WC got the ACR because the other interested parties did not have the WC resources , the ACR might have fallen into disrepair and would have displaced a number of employees
WC did not cut any jobs unlike the CN when they took over the entire operation.

The two ACR GP-38s were both painted in special paint schemes. 3026 had a big map of Wisconsin on it and 3027:had the flags of all the WC states and provinces of its operation.

I miss those days.
Randy

I was impressed with the all enclosed roundhouse in Saul Ste Marie and the people who worked there.

Traveled through the old stomping grounds of Central Wisconsin about 6 weeks ago.  I miss the sounds and sights of the WC F45’s and Sd40-2’s crossing the Knowlton Bridges at Lake DuBay south of Wausau/Mosinee and north of St Point on the Valley Sub.

In the dead of a January late night laying in bed we could tell a train was coming north as the horns for crossings echoed across the ice of the Lake and sloughs of the Mead Wildlife

Memories, thanks

I like hearing the WC memories from everyone. Very cool.

I thought the addition of F units to the AC trains was very classy as well. Really cool to hear all AC employees kept their jobs. It speaks to caring management.

I am a fan of the GBW. It pains me to think of how they tore that up however.

Still, the WC was a dynamic presence. So cool, on so many levels. So great to be trackside, summer railfanning. Really miss it.

Those two units were former MILW (via SOO and NREX) GP40s. They were relatively short lived on the ACR, only having been acquired about a year before the WC takeover.

I've seen a bunch of photos from 1994 of these two units on the Canyon Tour Train, so they seemed to like them for that service. GP38-2s (of which the ACR had six acquired new in 1981) were the prime power for the tour train and regular passenger train before the GP40s were acquired. The replacement of the GP units on the passenger trains by the F-units did make for a pretty nice looking train.
