That is very cool. It's amazing what was done by industry even before there were cars plying the roadways.
BTW, the Lake Shore Railway museum in Northeast PA, very near Erie, has one of those skinny shunting locos with the pusher arms as well as one of the very few Little Joe locomotives left intact. The museum isn't very fancy but those two locos are pretty unique and also accessible on the grounds whether the place is open or not.
There are also big unloading facilities visible at
Ashtabula Conneaut (?)Ohio as of a couple of years ago. The movie mentions that the Hullets are all gone but something huge and ugly with active RR facilities is there. It might be coal but whatever it is, it unloads huge lake freighters and is industrial
ugly cool.
Maybe somebody knows more about that?
