Kato is quoting a price of $105 for the mechanism, and they are very pointed about saying this runs on N Scale track, so they clearly realize the kitbashing potential of the mech for N Scalers.

If anybody's interested...I looked up the "Prince" and "Princess".
10' wheelbase (in HO = 1.37" =  18'-3" in N Scale)
24" drivers (= 48" drivers for N Scale)

But they're not HO, they're OO. 1:76. The wheelbase is 40mm or 20.8 N scale feet. The drivers are 8mm or 50" N scale. Not huge differences, but notable.

So while this is cool, you know what would be cooler? Peco turnouts on Unitrak Beds. 8)

What would really be cool is N Scale track for this century!!

Both Unitrack and PECO are nearly a half century plus a decade old now and have not progressed along with every aspect of N Scale.

Tie size and spacing and rail are still frozen in time going back to OOO gauge days.

In the meantime other scales and notably HO have benefited from continuous upgrades or entirely new lines (Walthers being the latest example).

We are stuck putting our fine state-of-the-art models on tinplate track....the only thing missing is a center rail!

Come on PECO or somebody....don’t you think a decent track line would outsell what is on the market now?  Quit replacing worn out tooling making worn out product!

Hey, for clip and go stuff I'll take "just works" without modification over having to worry about if a grain of ballast got into the guts or the frog rail decided to adios out of the webbing.

Besides if I want something that looks pretty I'll just handlay it anyway.
