I bring it up from time to time. As I want the Buffalo Division..

There are 2 versions of the NE Division, and the 2nd version was re-lettered to Buffalo in the 1980s.

I believe your photo is the 2nd version.

Someone on ebay made decals to do his own (crummy) custom run using modified con-cor cabooses in N scals, but he won't sell the decals.

I thought about doing my own, but haven't gotten around to it.. (I'd rather @Bluford Craig  do a foobie in a future release)

Yes the shot I posted was the second version.  The shot was taken in 1983. So the Buffalo Division, did it have something somewhere on it that said that??

I'm planning on doing this as a custom paint for a friend in HO.
So I figured I would see if anyone had done decals for this  before I had them done for me.

I think I brought it up a few times here. Someone was selling one on eBay for months. I think the decals were home made. They used a Walthers ICC caboose as the base.

The decals could be done at home as they are all color on the white car background. It might be something CMR would be interested in producing as they have several Conrail caboose sets available currently.

Modeling the car is a bit more tricky. These had riveted sides, unlike the ICC cars Bluford and Atlas offers. The half bay is also smaller and set lower on the the car body. If I were to build one myself, I'd actually start with the Walthers/Atlas car. Why? Because all you need is the basic shell. You'll need to change the windows and remove the weld lines and roof. Add Archer rivets and new windows. The end result is that you would be removing everything that makes the Bluford car so good. So why not use something that is less expensive? The end rails can be replaced by Atlas extended vision caboose parts. Correct T style stove pipes are available from MTL. Atlas has the correct trucks.

I don't have my Conrail Caboose book with me, but I'm pretty sure the N7 was built by NYC at their own shops. PC built another batch later (N7A maybe?).

The diagonal panel roof would be a good argument for the Bluford Shops caboose, vs the later x panel roof on the WAtlas car...  :D

Maybe he didn't notice that little detail :)

Did whats his name ever produce the brass kit for this model?

...he did the NYC/PC transfer caboose and the SP bay windows... and he and the N7s on his list.

I did notice that, and my old Walthers cars annoy me with their X panels. But I think the N7 had a slightly different diagonal panel pattern than the ICC cars. I just can't put my finger on it, but the two just don't look quite like each other. In any event, I much rather splice up a Walthers bay window part than the one from Bluford. The old stack cars are sold on eBay for under $15 sometimes.

Definitely possible, Despatch Shops did some weird things... I couldn't find a decent enough roof shot to compare to a Stanray roof on a ICC car...

The yellow lettering on the step faces would need to be opaque since it is applied over black.

Or you could paint the steps yellow and have a negative decal in black made with clear lettering for the yellow to show through.
