Soundtraxx Tsunami2 KN1 for Kato N scale Cowl Units

I haven't seen this posted but in one place, but looks like Soundtraxx is now going to finally produce a drop-in board for Kato F, E, F40PH, PA/B, and of course the P42. No mention of the SDP40F though.

It's an all in one decoder that also comes with 2 LEDS and a speaker. And no documentation yet on the Soundtraxx website so price and other information is unknown.

I've waited forever for Soundtraxx to do them, but I'm now at the point I like the sound quality and programability better from ESU decoders. Hopefully an announcement leads to more from both manufacturers for drop in decoders for N scale.

If I wasn't already converting all my F40PH engines to ESU with Alvin's adapter boards, I would have been all over this. I wish they announced thee a few months ago.

ESU decoders are much more configurable, and you can update their firmware, and sound files. Tsunami? Not so much.

Based on their board image it also appears that there aren't more than 4 AUX functions if it even has that many. If I'm going to be paying that much for a sound decoder I would expect it has at least the same amount of functions as what is on the market currently.

Seems a bit...underwhelming based on what is already out there.

Now had this been out 5 years ago it could have been a game changer.

I'm sure the brand S fanboys will be happy of course.

Enjoy!

I've always liked soundtraxx, and have a few P42's and F40's that I wouldn't mind upgrading from Digitrax "sound" decoders. I'll definitely give this a try.

This would also work on the engines where the adapter board would not like the PA.

Ouch, got an email for Streamlined Backshop for these.

MSRP for these things will be $150 for the "kit". So obviously street prices will be cheaper, but as mentioned before only 4 AUX functions. Definitely kinda underwhelming.

 Definitely kinda underwhelming.

Exactly!  That is what we suspected from the start.  But it probably has that highly touted (by Soundtraxx decoder owners) multi-band equalizer.  :)

Still waiting for ESU or ZIMO (well the last one is just a pipe dream) to come up with that type of sound decoder.
