Completed locomotive paint project

For the past 6-8 weeks I have been working on converting my Key Challenger #3985 into a TTG painted engine. I used #3982 as it was once painted in TTG with smoke lifters.
Now complete, but I am going to Neolube the drivers and rods, also need to tweak the tender as it is not tracking properly. At any rate it looks good, sounds good, and runs well. I am happy with the effort........................

Be well,

Carl,
Looks like everything worked out on the front engine? The loco looks beautiful.

Unbelievably good paint job, eye popping great job on getting decals or paint lines so straight.  Very well done.

Not a criticism, but rather a sincere question. Was the tender really that far behind tho loco cab on the real thing?  If it was, I hope the fireman was a good jumper. Yikes.

Can paint the connector black? That orange really jumps out!

Thanks to all for the nice comments.

The images, as usual, have pointed out a couple of areas that need a touch up and yes the orange connector does not belong where you can see it. I will have to tuck it into the tender shell. As far as the distance between the tender and boiler shell, I don't know, but I have to keep in mind that it will run on club layout with generous curves as well as home layouts with less generous curves.

I am thinking about converting my UP 844 into UP8444 and TTG scheme with white (silver ?) stripes. Should be easier because the domes will pop out of the boiler shell and cab pops off so no masking. Just another "round to it". Perhaps I should start with a UP838.

Outstanding. That looks like it was very challenging to do.

:)  Nice paint job and great head light!  Challengers always appealed to me more than the Big Boys.  Here is a basic black (plain Jane) 1990s plastic Rivarossi Challenger.  Note the factory cab to tender spacing.  Also notice the comparison of the Rivarossi pizza cutter wheel flanges to the correct flanges on the nice brass model.

Eja:  No, but on most steam locos there was also a hinged plate between the cab and tender, to cover what gap there was.
