That patched number is so clean it looks like it was photoshopped on.  It also seems redundant redundant.

Now that your pointed that out, the perspective angle of the patched number seems incorrect too.

That yellow patch would be where the C&O was originally.  I've seen instances where CSX had the road number on the patch, basically having it twice.  I need to find some other examples when I have time.

Turns out, this unit built as 7479, renumbered 7579, then was renumber to CSX 8430 and rebuilt to SD40-2 specs.

Not to mention the shop crews aren't as methodical on a patch as they would be on a new paint job.

Easy. Look at the ride height. Intermountain likes to jack their locos way up
