Gorgeous shot Ed, but I don't understand the "slipping by" comment. Not familiar with submission guidelines of Rail Pictures.  Is it extremely difficult to get things uploaded there?  Even so, why would they block you from posting such a nice photo?

Website has fairly strict guidelines in the realm of composition and subject. Off the top of my head its something like.

Horizon of the shot must be level

Subject of the photo needs to take up a certain % of the photo

Resolution of digital photos needs to be over a certain threshold

But they are very, very strict about some of them and a lot of the stuff that's posted there is quickly culled.

I believe they also don't accept 'going away' shots or 'roster shots' unless there's some really unusual interest.

Very nice Ed. Slipping by is a good word as they seem to prefer the regular named photographers. I got one in a couple years ago and all I did was point and shoot the IPhone. Others I have tried to set up and got rejected. PCA nominated.

100% not.

- foreground clutter (grass blocking view of everything below the frame)
- front-coupled/going away
- dark/neutral lighting

In additional to the other criteria you mentioned above any one of those three would be an automatic fail in the RP.net screening process.

If you know what they're looking for you can get some stuff in, but as said they are pretty picky and only the best make it (usually...)

I appreciate what they do even though it might be frustrating trying to contribute at times.

They're trying to provide a site that's got, essentially, magazine quality photos.

There is a LOT of rail photography out there, and their goal of the site is to be more spectacular, less stuff like this:

I'm even MORE amused at the fact that this one was shot on my cell phone using the Pixel's "Night Sight" mode. Thanks technology! It also goes to prove that the best camera is the one you've got with ya.
