New Athearn In Stock

MBK showing the new Athearn 40 containers in stock. But what caught my eye was the wallet popping $33 increase in the price on their 5 car coal porter car sets. The new run is in, but comes with a discount price of $104. I checked on the price of the older sets MBK still lists in stock and those are priced at $71.

Dunno if this shipment answers the question of whether MBK remains an Athearn retailer despite no longer being a brick and mortar shop, but it leaves the wallet lighter for sure.

I'm wondering why such a huge jump in price. The container packs are at a seemingly reasonable $22 each, but the coal porter 5 packs now cost as much as a Kato 8 pack from their last run.

Its odd - I don't see either of these and have refreshed multiple times.....

You need to check the "coming soon" box under "Subcategory" to see the new ones- they aren't actually in yet.

If you look at the MSRP, it has increased from 118.98 to 138.98 (+20).  Of the older sets at the 118.95, some are selling at 71.99, but several others are selling at 89.99- so one assumes that MBK (or Athearn) is offering additional discounts on the lower priced ones.  Overall, it appears MSRP has increased $20, and the MBK discounted price has increased $15, which is reflective of their discount policy. 

15-20% price increases have been all to common of late.  But this one is really a $20 per set increase (partially mitigated by MBK in this case- so a $15 increase in street price).

They are actually NOT in stock (yet); the  Athearn containers and Bethgons are all preorders and won't be out until next September (as in 2020).
