I’m addition to being a vendor at a local open house, I actually attempted some form of modeling instead of just talking about it.

This actually took most of the week (mainly to acquire the parts I needed), but it is finally done and I’m happy enough with it to share. The shell is from a Hallmark/Kumata RSD-5 that someone had painted in PRR. I won it for cheap, knowing it didn’t run, but I figured maybe it wouldn’t be Zinc rot (which these are known for). Well, apparently I’m psychic because that’s exactly what it was; the trucks disintegrated right in my hands. Well, looking at it, I wondering if an Atlas mechanism would fit under it. I tried one and it just barely didn’t fit, but I know I had a spare sitting around that I could make fit. After a lot of grinding (and a few mistakes here and there from being impatient), I got it ground down and insulated to the point it would run with the brass shell on it. All I needed now were the trucks which were so graciously donated to me by @jpec (thank you, again). All assembled and she runs well enough (old Atlas:Kato mechanism that hadn’t been run or worked on in years). I ground down a little too much on each end so I had to make a styrene shelf on each end to keep the body centered, but again, it’s done. May go back and fix a few things later, but it’s good enough for me at the moment.

This truck dump IS going to make it though. It's a multi-purpose facility that loads both regular hoppers and covered hoppers with powdered coal.

...

We ended the day at Blaschak Coal which is ALSO going to feature on the layout as well. I got some good detail shots of the truck dump here but this one just looks cool.
I want to model a truck dump.  Can you post pics and location?

I checked out Blaschak and found a truck dump south of Mahoney City on Google Earth.  There is something strange on the track past the empty: https://www.google.com/maps/@40.80311,-76.13551,170m/data=!3m1!1e3  Any ideas?

Oh yeah, I've got a TON of stuff about it. Many more photos, etc...
I'll work on putting something together.

I think that "something strange" is just a couple of piles of spilled coal, from leaky, or not-latched, hopper doors.

I've really enjoyed Altohorn's work on the Texas Special E-units.    I've been working with the Texas State Railroad now for 13 years, and when they 'finally' got the F-units, the question turned to 'so, what do we paint them?'.

I'd done a lot of research on potential historic schemes including all the obvious ones, but the one that 'stuck' with everybody that saw it was the Texas Special scheme - it went with TSRR red scheme, and their herald on the nose, and saluted a heritage scheme that had somewhat been forgotten but is still a dynamite paint scheme.   Those same photos of the E's were looked at two years ago with a 'YEAH!'.

So here's the derivative result, in 12" = 1' scheme.    https://www.railpictures.net/photo/699039/

And, I'm planning on doing a pair of FP's in that scheme in N, at least at some point.   Wheels of Time already did TSRR coaches in N.

And if we actually get to take title of any streamline equipment, that red letterboard, etc. will also get similar respect.

Spilt material from leaky hopper gates would be my guess...

Neah, they stole the giant dime I've been using for over a decade.  I used as far back as the Atlas forum.  Now I can't find that darn thing - it is suspiciously missing!  But I still have my Giant Quarter!! :D

Your Texas Special looks great. Here's a song about it by Texas singer/songwriter Guy Clark:

I acquired this old Bachmann kit over the weekend. I just built it two minutes ago. I'm pretty sure it's not N-scale...

The Old Bachmann Liberty Bell Limited set!  Big Haulers.  The engine still lurks up on a shelf in Andy's room at Mill Street.  I had that running around in my back garden (using the later, far superior Anniversary Edition 4-6-0), until the maintenance headaches made me sell it off.  Two solid days of pulling weeds and track grooming to get in about an hour of play time...

Enjoy!

Used to think those things were so cool when I was little, my Pop pop had the ""Blue Comet"" one around his tree at christmas. But as expected the thing crapped out after like 3yrs of only being taken out at Christmas. I grabbed one about 2yrs ago at a swap for $50 thinking it couldn't possibly be that hard to fix up. Its still being useless in the Garage at the moment, obnoxious as hell after I got all the track cleaned up, gears oiled, wheels cleaned. The thing would top out at a crawl and make a horrific squeal with every slow motion revolution.
