I just got my CR version, and it's not that far off from the actual one:

http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1542111

I'm sure having a front coupler, a separately mounted headlight, and those handrails on the roof would be nice, but I will give kudos to Atlas for resurrecting the tooling of rolling stock that meets the needs in our hobby.  At the end of the day, they are developing and delivering products that will keep me in this hobby for many years to come.  My only wish is that they develop some units that can go with the upcoming Rapido Comet Cabs and Coaches (aka. GP40PH-2, ALP-44, F40PH-2) :D

You think Atlas will dirty themselves with doing a 4th tier RR like the PRR?

He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

Sure, the front truck's wheelbase is shorter, but all you can see (and from very low angle) is just the small portion of the wheels. While I do like accurate models, in this case I would not really expect them to tool up a new (unique) truck (likely not used anywhere else), just to correct the wheelbase. I would rather see them redo the roofwalk, or flush-mounted window glass.

Since the only things that really show on the front trucks are the wheels, why wouldn't a MTL civil war era truck work? Looks like the space between wheels is pretty close to the diagram above.
I never run mine. Pretty much static models in an MOW line.

The OP was disappointed that Atlas did not model the truck correctly. Sure, a modeler can probably do what you are recommending, but I'm not sure if Atlas would partner with MTL to use their trucks.

I wonder if a dummy coupler for the front would be a good 3d printed part?

Or a laser cut walkway kit. Could also be etched with additional handrails and other details.

On the subject of wheelbase I took a look at the plow we have at work (a CP Angus not a Russell).

While the doors for the journal access show it originally had a shorter wheel base truck, Looking under the skirt  :D it has been retrofitted with a normal 5foot6ish? truck.

Both pictures are from the same angle relative to the doors...

Front journal.

Rear journal.

Thought it was interesting, I assume the larger truck coincided with the roller bearing conversion...

In the meantime.. let's push it with a Minitrix 2-10-2

PRR was one of the origional releases.. so it makes sense not to be the first to reissue..
