I got excited by the 38” wheels until I remember that the Kato axle length on the Maxis is wider like the old Atlas size. Still 36” are cool, since BLMA and Tangent wheels are becoming hard to find.
This. I expect the biggest demand for 38" wheels will come from people (like me) who want to swap out Kato wheels in the Maxi-I and Maxi-IV models. The Kato axle length is .562", so an Atlas-type axle (.553"?) would probably work in the Kato trucks. The .540" axle will not.
The only other models on the market (past or present) that can use 38" wheels are the articulated well sets from Deluxe Innovations (RIP), Walthers/Atlas, and N Scale Kits. Of these, only the Deluxe Maxi-IV set came with a 125T truck (along with 38" wheels), but it's no longer available. The DI truck did use the shorter .540" axle, so your wheels could replace those, but there aren't that many DI sets out there. Personally, I prefer to use Kato 125T trucks when I upgrade these other sets, so I'd still rather have a longer axle replacement wheel available. But I would consider good 38" wheels in a BLMA-style 100T truck if that were the option available. (If only those 100T trucks were actually available...)

FVM (fine scale) - 0.060"
BLMA/Atlas - 0.064"
Kato 38" - 0.070"
Deluxe 38" - 0.076"
