sirenwerks - Yes Sir,  don't give up hoping   - expect an announcement from JTC this Fall (and/or at the NMRA National Train Show) on 1970's suitable containers that are now in Tooling. Generally, we choose not to announce 1+ years in advance of delivery, announcing when product is within months (or days) from delivery.  Planning, etc., however, can be 1+ years in advance of delivery, and can be flexible, as needed.

60s and early 70s containers probably won't sell as well as the newer ones.  There were very few solid container trains back then, and many of the containers on trains were shipped on chassis, as trailers.  There is a market for them, with the variety of container-ready flatcars available today, but nothing like the need to fill today's stack trains.

I asked MT if they would bring back their containers, which are good for that era, and the tooling is already paid for.  Ben Thielleman said "I will note your interest seeing more decorated 20’ and 40’ containers for our future consideration."  One can hope.

It would be nice to have another supplier, as any single-source product is subject to discontinuation at any time.

I sent them a bunch of suggestions a year or two ago for the ribbed containers (exterior post) and got a nice reply - nuttin yet. I think they've released that tooling like 3 times. 

I've pretty much given up on seeing those again.

I suspect you're right.  I have the 40 ft container in SeaLand, NOL, and Undec, and Undec 20 ft boxes.  I asked if they had ever released decorated 20 footers, and the answer was that the only ones Mr. Thielleman knew of were NASA in 2017.

JTC has released more than 20 different decorated 20' container schemes in the last 12 months -since May 2018.

Once additional 20' body styles are released, including some older era containers, that will increase even more. There was some interesting variety of containers in the late 60's & 70's, however most were not documented very well, so research takes more resources.
