What was the shorter PS-1 like? Exact copy of the taller version except shorter? Did it have fewer end corrugations?
Originally P&WV.NM, I think that's an error in the book. My guess would be ex-NH.Jason
NH and DL&W were the only roads to order the 10' IH variant. B&O built some 10' IH cars using PS components.
Right, which is why the book is in error when it said P&WV which were 10' 6" cars.TP&W, ACY and PH&D had leased cars originally from the NH 35000-35999 series.Jason
Aha, so the shoter PS-1 is missing the top thin stiffener rib at the top for gthe less height. Cool -- should be easy to cut down a stock PS-1 to match it. Maybe I'll try an Atlas version first. But at least the NH wasn't the ONLY RR with these oddballs. Interesting. Looks like they had to locate the lower door guide on the sill instead of the bottom of the car wall. So they could use the same doors as the reg PS-1? that will be interesting to duplicate...What are the Bachmann 40' cars like? Are they PS-1s? Are they halfway decent for accuracy?
Ongoing question- why would NH sell less than 20yo cars, needing refurbishment? We know the RG took the opportunity to get some 'cheaper' 40 footers to replace vital service arrangements as the original 1939 series aged and wore out.
Because the railroad was bankrupt and sold a large number of the boxcars for money, the bulk of which they leased back after being refurbished (the red-orange cars and the black cars).
The Railwire is not your personal army.
