Love my optivisor!  All of my 0402 LED's have been soldered using only them.  I have a rotating 2X magnifier lens that I can swing in, but I really never use it.  I wear glasses too but I remove them when using the optivisors.

Also buy a roll of thin 3M double stick tape to hold the LED until the wires are soldered.

Optivisor uses several interchangeable lens plates. Which one do you use?  I upgraded to #7 for the really close-up work. I also bought #10 but that one is a bit awkward to use. If I need more magnification than what #7 gives me, I use my stereo-microscope.

I bought the fancy multi-lens set, in gun-style case.  But then basically just use the #7 as well. I haven't had any issues with 0402 LEDs with that lens (and my bifocals).

@peteski this is the one I bought, LX-5 (5 Diopter):

with this (which I rarely flip in):

Thanks John!  So mine is the next higher magnification.  I looked at the extra flip-up magnifier but I didn't think it would be useful (since to me it is all about stereoscopic vision).  Looks like you also didn't find much use for it. I do have few individual loupes which I use from time to time.

What about getting two of the extra flip ups?  One for each eye to preserve depth of field.

Too cumbersome for me - I rather just use my microscope.
