Intermountain has announced another run of their R-70-20 refrigerator cars in N scale. The prototype was manufactured from 1969 through 1972, by Pacific Car and Foundry. Available in Aug/Sept 2018.

The N cars are ex-Red Caboose, right? Then why are they highlighting "New!" for the Hydra-Cushion underframe version? Is it the roof?

These have been around for a few years, and I'm 90% confident they are not based on the Red Caboose tooling.  Aside from the ride height, they are nice models, and the prototype is thick on the ground in Edison.  :)

OK, I'll check the fleet again. I have 60 or so "R-70-20" PFEs for my "Salad Bowl Express". Most are Red Caboose from when they were cleaning house of kit inventory, but I have some Intermountain from the previous run, and Athearn.

Yes, you're right - different model, and a significantly better one, too, ride height notwithstanding. Still don't understand the "New!", however, as the one I have on my desk here from the last Intermountain run has the Hydra-Cushion underframe.

I think it's the paint scheme or reporting mark variation - the SP medallion scheme is a first for IMRC.

For the PFE scheme it could also be the roof type - not sure it's been specified new or late before either.

I had a bunch of these reserved last time they announced WFEX and BNFE cars.  All were canceled, so I'll keep my MDC cars.  Not quite as nice, but they're paid for, and it will keep the detail level consistent.

For your sakes, I hope these actually get made...

"New" as in "new run"?

These are nice models. The grill where the a/c unit is is see-through (etched), unlike the Athearn models.

AND they have exhibited a religious fervour for extensive and correct NEW road numbers that others have taken a significant time to emulate.
