Nice Dan , are you going to have some sort of a sign that it is a Railwire Special Inspection Tour ? Too bad the Railwire doesn't have a T-shirt of a particular color " CR Blue or something " that would be easy to model so you could state that the seats are filled with asshats , and the hats are removed to be polite . Just a week ago or so I was looking at a shot of one of those . I was thinking mini LCD , with a looped GIF of real Asshats seated and acting out . That would require a gathering in some made up theater for the shoot .

I held off for a long time wondering too.  I can't really evaluate them until they have been soaked, and that will hopefully start next weekend.  I could certainly do a build thread if there was sufficient interest.  I am looking into getting windows laser cut for the shells as I know the Kato windows won't fit.

I purchased a two-car set of Kato Budd RDCs years ago and they have sat on the shelf ever since, so I am quite keen to get to them after all these years:

I too am interested in how Tim's shells turn out post Bestine soaking.  I went through seven Shapeways prints to end up with three that were acceptable.  Of the three I now have, one is absolutely impeccable and the other two are, shall we say, ok. The problem, apparently, is print orientation but that's a subject for another thread.

As posted in last week's edition of the Weekend Update, I have built three of the Phase II versions of BC Rail's RDC's.  I will be happy to help with any questions regarding the build of these to supplement Tim's thread should he decide to do one.  The Kato chassis requires some trimming to get it to accept the shell.  This must be done very carefully so as not to compromise the integrity of the chassis.  Some grinding is also required on the mounting bosses on the Shapeways shell to allow the Kato chassis to fit snuggly.  This is all very apparent when examining the parts but hard to explain unless you're looking at them :)

One other detail that may be worth mentioning is that I cut out the radiator blister on the roof of the Shapeways shell and replaced it with the Kato one after trimming off the ends.  The Kato one is much more detailed than the Shapeways one and looks better, in my opinion.  This procedure is NOT for the faint of heart as a good fit is not easy to achieve.  I could post a photo if anyone wants a close look at how I did it.

Funny you should mention that. With the pile of cars I purchased from (yet another) member, I was able to obtain a full Kato Budd business car. These were never used on Conrail, and I don't have the heart to cut it up for kit bash fodder, so my plan is to do just that. The lounge would feature all the usual suspects, including Dave and our dearly departed Mike.

Even thought of a Last Supper Da Vinci homage in the dining room, of I can get figures that small to pose.

A build thread it is, then.  Doug, if you have pictures of the radiator blister swap I would like to see them.  That would be a major and worthwhile upgrade.  I do need to check to see if there were any differences between the Phase I and Phase II blisters.

The problem with this is that the Phase II blister was considerably different than the Phase I, especially so all the screening that was used on them.

Well, I guess I'm using the Phase I radiator blisters on my Phase II RDC's but you know what?  They look a whole lot better than the stock Shapeways ones.  At least you can see the detail on the Kato units whereas the detail on the Shapeways ones is virtually non-existent.  I should have filed off those lower louvers :facepalm:.
