Acrylic paint over rattle can Rustoleum

Group:
Have been reading a lot lately about some persons using either Rustoleum 2x primer or Brown Cameo to paint track. I am considering using it as a primer or base coat, until such time as I have to repaint/spray with Acrylic Railroad Tie Brown on the ties. Are there any adhesion or other issues using the Rustoleum and later Acrylics?

Kind Regards,
Bill

No, but it never hurts to take a damp, not wet microfiber cloth and remove any oil residue from your hands during laying or manufacture to insure better adhesion.

Hi Brian:
Thanks for the response. Just to clarify, I meant adhesion issues between the two different paints.

Kind regards,
Bill

If anything the ultra flat paint will improve adhesion...

As far as I know typical model acrylics will work fine over any rattle can paint.  I've used numerous brands, and weathered with acrylics, with no problems.

The only problems I've had were trying to use acrylics over a gloss finish, and that was due to the acrylic not wetting the surface, so it beaded up.  You won't have that problem.

I've been known to brush-paint acrylics over Rustoleum primer coats...and no problems at all.  In fact, it helps.

Water-based acrylic paints over organic-solvent-based paint should work well. Just make sure that the Rustoleum is thoroughly dry. Otherwise there might be a risk of the water-based acrylic trapping and preventing the solvent gases from Rustoleum from evaporating.
