Registration is now open for the Even Bigger 2017 Railway Modellers’ Meet.
Come to Vancouver May 5th to 7th 2017!

Vancouver in May is a wonderful place to visit.  This year it is even more wonderful if you are a Model Railroader!  Following on a fantastic Meet last November, the RMMBC Committee are aiming to do even better with their upcoming Modellers’ Meet  running May 5th to May 7th. In November we had attendees from all across Canada the US and overseas join us for a fantastic weekend of model railroading and our plans for May are even bigger.

In our “un-biased” opinion, there is no place more beautiful than Vancouver in springtime.  Why not combine your favourite hobby with our favourite time of year in our favourite place?

In May we will have an excellent lineup of operating sessions (10 layouts), an expanded set of clinics for every interest (19), layout tours and a larger model display area,  And in May the weather is nicer, the days are longer and the Meet will be at a larger, better-equipped venue.  If this all sounds appealing, book the weekend of May 5th to 7th for this must attend event.  http://railwaymodellersmeetofbc.ca/

New Venue, More Opportunities

We listened to the feedback from our November Meet.  Among the changes is an improved venue at Simon Fraser University (Burnaby campus). The meet timing is between school terms at SFU, making the world class classrooms and excellent accommodations available for our use.  Not only does this location result in a nearly endless supply of excellent space designed for giving educating clinics, but also, remarkably convenient access and inexpensive, comfortable accommodations.  Dorm rooms start at $39, and there are a small number of hotel-style multiple occupant rooms for $95 and $120.  Don’t delay; SFU will hold these prices only until March 1st.  Book your room through our website at http://railwaymodellersmeetofbc.ca/node/12  .  At this price, even local attendees may wish to consider staying onsite to take advantage of more networking opportunities with fellow modellers.

SFU offers ample inexpensive and convenient parking only steps from the clinic and display rooms, numerous restaurants and gathering places and great access from the lower mainland’s excellent Skytrain and bus network.   Frequent bus service and nearby Skytrain stations will allow easy access to the meet from almost everywhere in the lower mainland for those using public transportation.

2017 Clinic Lineup

We have an expanded program of what we believe will be very high quality, informative and entertaining clinics.  Clinics about painting backdrops, building scenery and structures, prototype equipment, and scratch-building steam locomotives are among the offerings this year.  of the  clinicians come from across Canada and the US and we’re looking forward to a lively and engaging modelling track at this year’s Meet.  Visit http://railwaymodellersmeetofbc.ca/clinics for details and photographs of all of the clinics.

Operating Sessions

The operating sessions are always extremely popular and we have even more layouts and operating slots this year.     We will be running two days of sessions at the Meet -  Friday May 5th and Saturday May 6th - and one session will be specifically for teaching Timetable and Train Order operations for those interested in learning more about this very interesting aspect of model railway operations.  We have several new layouts coming online this year, giving more operator capacity and variety.  Even so, we expect these sessions to fill up early - another reason not to delay your registration.

Layout Tours

Because the days are longer and evenings are brighter in May, following the self-guided layout tour  will be a breeze.  Among the excellent layouts will be the HO scale Coquihalla Valley Railway as well as the well-known Columbia and Western Railway; an N scale layout that has been featured in numerous magazines including the cover of Model Railroader.  In addition, several new layouts in Vancouver that have not been on previous layout tours will be featured along with some returning favourites.  Gather inspiration from these high quality layouts.

Register now

So share this email with your modeling friends and plan to attend the 2017 edition of the Railway Modellers’ Meet May 5-7th. Register now so you don’t miss out on all the fun.  The registration form and accommodation links are on the website http://railwaymodellersmeetofbc.ca/node/10

We hope you will join us in Burnaby for three days of camaraderie, education and great model railroading!

Sincerely, the RMMBC Committee

There's no better way to make tremendous progress on a layout than to sign up for an event you don't think you're ready for!  Go Gary go!

Railway Modellers Meet of BC: Ops full, cheap accomodations ending soon

Hi everyone...

Space at the 2017 RMMBC Meet May 5-7 is filling up fast.  Considering half of our registrants are coming from outside the Vancouver area, with 1/4 from outside British Columbia, this is certainly not your typical regional get together.

If you have been thinking about joining us in Vancouver for the impressive line up of clinics, layouts and activities, and you would like to take advantage of the inexpensive on site accommodations, you have just a few more days to do so.  To take advantage of the discounted dorm and hotel rooms at Simon Fraser University please sign up and book a room by end of day April 5th.  For our American friends, don't forget to convert to Canadian $ where the accommodations become even more inexpensive

Of special note to TRW members, I have been reviewing the clinic presentations as they are compiled for next month's Meet and - as I think you could expect -  Max Magliaro's 2 hour+ session on his steam locomotive scratch building techniques are sure to blow everyone away!  Complete with videos and hands-on materials.  If you are a fan of Max's work these are clinics you will want to see.

Railway Modeller's Meet of BC...Special Discounts at Central Hobbies

Well we're coming down to the wire.  Just 19 days to go and we keep adding attractions to the Railway Meet of BC gathering on May 5th-7th.

This time Central Hobbies, one of Canada's best-stocked model rail hobby stores is offering *all* registered attendees to the meet a 10% discount on purchases they make that weekend.  Not only that but Central has kindly offered to sponsor the Meet for a total of 5% of all the purchases registrants make!

This, on top of the packed clinic schedule, layouts, social events,  make-and-take seminar, and more just adds to the value of attending this meet.  When you factor in the inexpensive accommodation and cheap Canadian dollar and you're guaranteed great value for your time and hobby dollar! So don't sit on the fence about whether to attend...we'd love to have you.

We are a week away from the second annual Railway Modellers Meet of BC in Burnaby BC.  Be sure to bring your models for the display room.

You might think that your models are "just" kitbashes or RTR with some tweaks and/or weathering. Or they maybe scratchbuilt from the ground up.  Whatever you have, bring it! Everyone can appreciate models, regardless of how they are done. Finished, unfinished, works in progress, or straight out of the box, bring what you have to share with other modellers.

There is also an optional "show and share" where you can briefly describe what you have been working on. If you want to present, great, and if not, stay around and listen to what others are up to. You'll likely learn something useful to further your modelling efforts.  We look forward to seeing everyone there.
