Good discussion, but can you simplify further for us neophites?

What is the oldest version of Photoshop that can be bought that contains image stacking?

I know for other features and in other threads, people have suggested buying older versions of the software that are significantly less expensive (Photoshop Elements), as I can't see most modelers needing the full suite of tools the complete program offers.

That's a lot of money and contracts for all of these options for the part-time model railroading photographer.  Guess I'll stick with my crappy cell phone pics.
