Can it be an ESM kit?

I could make the sides available.  But it requires two donor Walther's 50' composite auto boxcars — one with the end doors (which was hard to find even when they were in production) and without the end doors to get the stamped A end to add the ratchet brake.  Plus, you have to remove the existing sides from the Walthers models in order to extract the roof (after discarding the B end of the cars) and cut them down to the proper length.  The InterMountain version of the end doors is more refined but equally scarce.  If suitable car ends can be secured, the rest of the model including the roof could be scratchbuilt.

My third attempt at a GTW 40' auto box with end doors. I think this one is going to work out.

At one time, you were considering making this a CV car, rather than GTW.

What factors led you to ultimately opt for GTW?

lots of work to the "Turquoise Room" in anticipation of resuming progress on the Kingman Canyon layout! (starting and growing a T-TRAK group has slowed work on the layout for a few years!!!)
The Turquoise Room is, now, officially turquoise! Last week we prepped and painted the room in the shade of turquoise that we thought would complement the room but still maintain an open look.

as soon as the paint was dry I wasted no time in hanging the various ATSF prints and plaques; future track lighting will help illuminate the framed prints and layout...

Denise also contributed a nice feature; a vintage tin plate train she purchased at a train show a few years back, recently put into a shadow box she aquired and lighted...

the fascia of the layout was painted a complementary Southwestern-y earth red (the same color I've been painting the fascia of the T-TRAK modules) and the fabric that will form the skirting has also been purchased (here it can be seen on its bolt under the layout). It will be sewn in panels and attached to the fascia with velcro strip, allowing access to the storage drawers underneath, but providing a finished look to the layout, while adding to the Southwest theme of the Turquoise Room.

thanks for looking,
~Bruce

I oscillate back and forth.  Both had a presence in 1950s lower New England.  It still may end up with CV markings.  But I have a number of CV cars already and very few GTW.

I attempted to "improve/change" 2 buildings on my layout. For the full descriptions of the multiple foul-ups along the way you will have to see my blog entry on the disasters at http://rickb773-prsl.blogspot.com/ .

I used an old, old, way “too common”, Revell/Heljan Del Ray Foundry / Bakery building to stand in for a Del Monte Distributors market. Since the real building was white, here was project number one. Change its appearance and hopeful mask its heritage and match the prototype buildings color. I had already changed the buildings “give away” signs (Alaskan Travel & Shell Oil) to 2 Del Monte advertisements.

Problem #1 was too many windows and doors. Following sloppy masking, the white spray paint went on fairly well. The building indeed looked different. But then I decided to weather it with Doc O’Brien’s grimy black weathering powder. I thought you were supposed to be able to blow/wash away the powder if you didn’t like the outcome but I must not have waited long enough for the paint to fully dry. It went on and permanently stuck way more than I desired. Suddenly white is almost black. Lost the main benefit of the color change!

For the second building I was trying to get the effect of an existing line side Westville building. I masked it and painted the white portion. The building was ready for me to repaint the top story and roofs to get the effect I wanted. I re-masked it, grabbed the next spray can and went to work. It went on fairly well. Now remember:
.     1) I should never be allowed to touch paint and
.     2) I am color blind

When the paint was drying I noticed the roof looked suspiciously like the roof brown spray I use to weather my tracks and it was. I guess that is why I should actually read the paint color name on the can. Oh well, another coat and this time I used the flat black. Neither job turned out as planned but I at least met my goal of (very) incremental improvements. (And maybe next time I’ll read the can name - but you can’t really count on that.  :))

I'm NOT color blind, and I still read the labels on paint cans/bottles!

The one time I didn't I got a rattle can of Camouflage Gray instead of Dullcote, and had a very heavily weathered boxcar...  Fortunately, most of it came off, with a little thinner, and without damaging the factory paint.  Ended up looking respectable, if not what I was trying for.

Probably, although "louvers are louvers", and now that you mention it, they could be.

But if one wanted to have a wall or part of a wall for storage you could incorporate a louver door or a section of it into a plywood or sheet-rock slab side of a diesel hood . Then paint it up in the road colors of choice . The wall that you enter into the train-room could be a diesel hood mock-up with the louvered doors an entry way . No its not clouds , but it is unique .

The structure shown is the N Scale version of the Revell HO Bakery was originally a built-up commissioned by Revell Rapido and offered by AHM and others.   Some semi-kits were also marketed.
ConCor had Heljan do a version but it was a flat kit and did not have the overall proportions of the Al Armitage-designed original and lacked the nice brickwork as well.
