You guys are just plain spoiled, when I started in N-scale in 1970 you were lucky to get any thing in the road names that you modeled. I purchased many Minitrix U28Cs and your choice was SF, SF, or SF. No one made models in different road numbers until many years later. I guess they were all Toy manufactures back then!

But, but, but, we are well into the 2nd decade of 21st Century and things evolve. The '70s are long gone. Spoiled or not, progress has been made (because modeler's demanded it).  Multiple road numbers are pretty much standard feature  for locos and cars from most manufacturers. So are runner's packs.  Spoiled or not, it is today's standard.

Even back in the '70s, there was a real model manufacturer called Kadee. They changed the road number every time they re-released a specific model.  :P

Automobiles don't have manual chokes or spark advance anymore. It is all automatic in contemporary cars. Does that make all the drivers spoiled because they don't have to futz with those adjustments like they had to in the old days?

But you're also right - if someone wants it bad enough, they can renumber their models. Some modelers can even print their own decals or even  design and print their 3D models.  It all depends on how far you want to take things.

Ha Ha!  That's why I modeled Santa Fe back in the 70's.  Bachman train set with Santa Fe F9 and a Life-Like Santa Fe GP40.

That's what brake fluid was for.

Ahh, I lucked out and had a beautiful black and gold NP U28. It looked nice so I bought it, tho (ahem) I was modeling ATSF. Never repainted the NP.

Jim, I do not understand your post? Are you just joking or are you serious? I happen to find it nice that manufactures offer freight cars with multiple car numbers. If you're interested in operation, this is a plus. The same holds true for locomotives. I am not asking for the manufacture to do all of this extra work and still charge me $17.95, the 1974 price of a U28C. I'm willing to pay the $104.45 for a Atlas U23B that is offered with two different road numbers and Plug & Play DCC. If you were just joking, I apologize for the long winded reply, if you were not joking, then let me remind you it is no longer 1970, thankfully things have progressed in the hobby since the 1970's.

For the record, it appears my K4 has suffered the same malady the Rich_S had.  Will get it back to the factory today.

I wasn't running it at the time, but the engineer who was, reported that is seemed to be runnng rough immediately beforehand and finally stopped on straight plain ordinary track.  I had been running it a fair amount over the past week and it seemed to be running better than ever.

Bill, If you have any issues, call 1-800-356-3910  and ask to speak with Richard Whalen. He is the person you want to speak with, if you run into any problems with the technicians.

Someone should model the 1970s N Scale  as their prototype. Repaint today's engines in those old horrid looking colors, replace the MT couplers with Rapidos, put it old pizza cutter wheels, on, and use brass track and run lots of boxcars with thick roof walks. ADD the MP Jack Work oal mine, an Atlas station and machine shop building and turnouts with motors above the able top.

Didn't DKS muse about doing something like that? Build a layout with 1970's techniques and structures?

They do replace them sometimes.

:|Yes the B Man Techs do replace them sometimes. When my first K4 blew a rod and was sent back under warrantee when it came back the paperwork sent with it listed what was repaired. When my second K4 experienced the same problem, when it was sent back to me there was no listing on the paperwork of work done. I suspect it was just replaced. Not long after another Railwire member sent his in under warrantee and was told he could have a Berkshire instead as his locomotive could not be fixed and there were no replacements. Now these have been restocked. When one of my Rio Grande SD45 locos with sound had problems (true they are not the best looking SD 45's) Bachmann notified me that they were out of Rio Grande did I want something else? I selected an SP DCC S4 a much better locomotive, but no sound. BLW still had a Rio Grande in the other locomotive in stock so I picked up another from there where I had purchased the first two.
