DFF - Given how hard it is to get contractors these days, I just have to get stuff done when the opportunity presents itself. The guy who will be doing the walls and ceiling is aware of the new flooring and said he would try to be careful with it. But at the end of the day, it's a workshop and I figure wear and tear is pretty much inevitable.

Wow, Mark, that is awesome!  Beautiful  hobby space.  All that in 5 months, that's some great work.

No worries there, I'm pretty much the Felix Unger of model railroading 

Funny story - the original workbench surface was a bunch of beat up 2x4's bolted together short side up. And of course my fear (apart from the fact that it was ugly) was that I was going to be losing tiny little parts down in all those cracks and crevices on a daily basis. So, I had my guy resurface it with some nice particle board and then trim the edges with cedar to match the walls. And of course when he was done my first thought was "this looks too nice - I'm never going to be able to use it!"

Huzzah, the puzzle pieces are glued back together, the track is reconnected, and the trains are running again. I still need to reconnect the wires for the lights, fix the munged up scenery, and repair a couple of damaged buildings. But all the really scary stuff is definitely behind me now, so yay!

Well, that's it folks. Everything is back the way it was 8 months ago, just moved 8 miles west. I guess it wasn't so immoveable after all

 A cockpit style layout, yet floating away from the walls so ducking under is purely optional...  I like it.
The room turned out very nicely.  The knotty cedar paneling has a wonderful mid century "club basement" vibe.
I see you also have a DC power pack as well as a DCC rig?  Is there a big knife switch on the wall somewhere that switches it from one to the other?

Now when I look at that big unfinished basement at my cabin, this is all I will be able to see...
