Hey everyone, how much India ink would you add to a pint of alcohol for a weathering wash?

I couldn't tell you about a pint because I mix smaller batches, 3 oz. or so as a little goes a long way plus a pint is hard to get your brush in.  In my small batches, I usually start with about 5-6 drops and stain some strip wood to see if it needs to be darker.
It's best to start conservatively as you can always add more.

There's no silver bullet for washes. Strength will depend on what you're doing.
When I do washes, I use paint and water on a pallet and apply with a wet brush. You get more control that way. I use those W&N water soluble oil paints.

India ink is strong stuff, not quite like paint either. I have done washes with paint, oils, acrylics, etc., I just wanted to see what other folks use for a mix with this stuff in particular.....I will probably want to spray it too, which is why a whole pint....but mixing up a small batch slowly adding a drop of ink at a time is probably the way to go....

Then you may know there's all kinds of quality and densities available depending on brand. Waterproof and not waterproof. There are also cheap ones labeled "india ink" that are poor excuses for permanent ink.

I just mixed some and put way to much ink in it. Had to keep pour half out and filling with more alcohol till I got it right. Kept testing by dipping a piece of stripwood.

6 parts gin to one part vermouth.  Take internally.  Repeat.  Your weathering will look much better. :ashat:

Hey everyone, how much India ink would you add to a pint of alcohol for a weathering wash?

I was just told last weekend:

1 Tablespoon for "light"
2 Tablespoons for "medium"
3 Tablespoons for "dark"
All in 1 Pint of alcohol

Haven't tried it myself yet, but that may give you somewhere to start.
