Gatorfoam?

After doing some Railwire research and a few articles read in MR,  I have been interested in possibly building modules using Gatorfoam. My plan is to begin this summer on a layout but in sections. I plan on moving in the next few years so lightweight and portable are important to me as well. I have seen where some have built both the top and the module frame by cutting the 1x strips with a saw. I have a local source for gatorfoam on clearance at $50 a sheet for 3/4" thickness, which is around the price for 3/4" plywood here as well. Most articles I have read worked with 1/2" gatorfoam, but I'm sure a little thicker would be better. What is everyone's experience with this material? At this price point, would it make sense to buy what I would eventually need well in advance?

3/4" 4x8 sheet for $50? Where? That's a crazy good price... I paid about $60 for 1/4" a few years ago. I have some projects going right now where 3/4" Gatorfoam would solve a lot of problems, but I don't have a local source any more, and shipping is too costly for 4x8 sheets. I need to cozy up to a commercial signmaker, I guess.

Neat stuff. Very stiff, very flat, amazingly light. Won't hold fasteners very well, as would be expected with a foam, and any mechanical fasteners going through it will need to be backed with washers. I use polyurethane ("Gorilla") glue to secure it.

I can't imagine building module frames out of it... but I guess it's possible provided you fasten the corners mechanically to non-foam gussets.

I've always wanted to use it, but not available around here. And shipping could be high for a big piece.
