Alternative to wood or concrete ties: Plastic

Just watched a clip on Factory Made on the Science Channel regarding recycling plastic into railroad ties.  Anyone know of anywhere that these are being used ?  The clip is from 2010, and in the video it begins at 11:45 mark.

I couldn't find any specific railroads mentioned in my research, but they did say that in warm, damp environments where wood ties don't last long, they are being replaced quite successfully with recycled plastic ties. They are even selling them as replacements in landscaping for wood ties.

I guess our model railroad plastic ties now have a prototype.

Where did I read they have been tested by one or more Class 1's and rejected?  Some inhert flaws in the physics of using plastic's in this application I believe.
