Hello I have an crossover using 2 atlas snap switches with an short section of straight between the diverging curve coming out of the switch. when I run an athearn sd40-2 blue box when it hits the first frog it sparks at the frog and stalls, other than that the engine runs smooth. so what could be the issue?
thanks
Mark

are the frogs electrically powered?

is there something else on the locomotive, other than the wheels, touch rail at this point?

with the small frog angle is the twisting of trucks making contact with frame or something in the locomotive?

if it is on the other main and coming through the crossover in the opposite direction, does the same thing happen?

if you physically turn the locomotive around on the track and run it through this crossover, does the same thing happen?

sounds like a short of some kind.

Is this the only loco that does this? Can you take a close up well focused Photo that we can see. There might be a spot where the wheels are touching both rails at the same time as it moves through the switch.
