a minor tweak to the Pasta Plan,  flipped the yard, shifted the caboose track and moved the plastics factory to the outside of the curve.  Moved the paper mill where Acme had its second track (now straightened) and added a large refinery.

overall its a minor tweak, but moving plastics opens up the town area qute a bit.

A few suggestions for the Pasta Plan:
Have dark blue siding come off left light blue curve by end of light blue sidings like on right end of them.
Make the orange track the caboose track as the pink one will only hold one. Fuel, sand, etc can be worked from house lead.
Move the engine house over one sectional track.
Add another sectional to top two yard tracks.
See if you can rework the Acme & Paper mill spurs as they look like they'll hold short cars.

Just looking at this from a real world view: the Plastics Co would definitely pay for their spur to come off the mainline running right next to them rather than shell out a lotta bux for a long roundabout one which would cost them more to install.  Plus pay for crossing signage and maintenance, etc.
If you changed it you could even use the same turnout moved to the new location to make the spur. Or use a new switch and change the old spur to serve the refinery with a second track.

After looking through the complete thread I'll throw in my two pennies  :scared:
I LIKE your first plan on two doors and that you thinned out the plans...but after that you took more tracks again so it looks a bit overcrowded to me.
I want to recommend you a nice book written by Marty McGuirk "N Scale Railroading (Getting started in the hobby)", Model Railroader Books $19.95.
My son and I read the book several times and also built a layout in our basement just like your 2nd trackplan - on two doors looking like an L with an extra door standing around for future extension....

I have been working for the last several weeks and I think I have a good plan now (or at least BETTER  :scared:  :D ):

Track colors:
Yellow: yard
Red: mainline
Blue: industry
Orange: Kato Viaduct for curved bridge
Pink: caboose.
Purple: Passenger track and runaround

I'm going to use an oversized HO-scale barge flat (10-1/8" by 3-9/16") as the car float
